How to apply for environmental licence or permit

If the department is your administering authority, you can apply for an environmental authority (EA) online, through Online Services at www.des.qld.gov.au/onlineservices, for all activities.

Alternatively, you can apply using the standard, variation or site-specific application forms, which are available by emailing , on the Business Queensland website, or phoning 1300 130 372 and selecting option 4.

New EA applications for mining activities can be completed through Online Services only after completing a tenure application through the Department of Resources' MyMinesOnline service.

The department is progressively moving licence and permit information from this website to the Business Queensland website. If you are seeking further information about lodging an EA, please go to the Business Queensland website (search for environmental authority).

The department provides information about how to obtain environmental licences and permits. This includes fee information, application forms, information sheets and guidelines relevant to a range of activities.

When planning a project or activity that could impact upon the environment, it is important to first determine what kinds of approvals are required.

If your application is for a development approval under the Planning Act 2016, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of the consultation service provided by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning (DSDILGP), before lodging the application. This will ensure the correct information has been provided and the application can proceed without delays. For information on how to organise a pre-lodgement meeting, please contact your local DSDILGP office.

If your application is for an approval that is not a development approval under the Planning Act 2016, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of our free consultation service before lodging the application with the department. This will ensure the correct information has been provided and the application can proceed without delays.
